Resuscitation on the Field of Play
Resuscitation Council UK has released new guidelines to enhance life-saving efforts during sporting events. “Resuscitation on the Field of Play: best practice guidelines” aims to improve responses to sudden cardiac arrests in athletes. The focus is on swift recognition, high-quality CPR, early defibrillation, and effective emergency planning by medical teams. These guidelines cater to all community and professional sports, including football, swimming, and tennis. Though rare (approximately 1 in 217,000 people per year), sudden cardiac arrests during sports can be devastating.
